We have way too many forwards who aren't offensive threats. Way too many. It's like one scoring line and then three checking lines; and they're not particularly defensive minded either.

I'm sure McNabb may hear a few boos, and we all know that 1000 boos in a 60,000 seat stadium are still audible, but somewhere down the road we'll remember him as a great Eagle. Just like Randall, even Reggie wasn't liked by many for leaving and he's immortalized right there at the stadium. Which reminds me of my other issue: We have this great sports complex and no statues of great Eagles. I see some phillies, kate, dr j but no eagles except some dude punting. I'm not looking for a McNabb statue - yet; but Bednarik would be a good start. Make it out of concrete of course

Obviously the O line is critical this year. Kolb is deadly accurate with time and not so under pressure. So the key is to keep the D guessing with a commitment to the run. In other words, this won't work with Andy coaching. Should've traded McNabb for Shanahan!

If, big IF, the Phils make the postseason. Somebody asked if Oswalt can handle an East coast town. Good question. I was thinking the other day, can Halladay handle playoff pressure? His poor Sunday night ESPN numbers made me wonder if he's ready for prime time or too accustomed to not being in real pressure cooker games in Toronto. Hopefully we'll find out this October.

Lee trade wasn't necessary
- 1 out of 174 total comment(s)
Thu., 07/22/10 - 15:42 PM
Yeah, we could definitely use an upgrade in the rotation. Halladay, Hamels and either Oswalt or Haren is deadly for a 7 game playoff series. Unfortunately, we won't be in the playoffs since there's no clutch hitting, terrible batting average, and the bullpen consistently turns close games into blowouts. I'm blown away that Blanton batted for himself yesterday with bases loaded in the 6th. We all (except Charlie) know that Blanton will give up more runs if he goes into the 7th. So a chance to get a lead and go to the bullpen implodes into another routine loss. That's another thing, the losses are routine and seem to be 'accepted' whereas the last few wins have all been last minute luck. They need a team leader who can remind the guys to hit the ball and not just wait for 3 run homers that never come. With injuries it's easier to avoid the few guys that can hurt you and pitch to the others. Blah

Anything has to be better than what Parent showed in the playoffs. Instead of retiring Bernie's number we should have retired his last name and let no more Flyers play with that name! Plus/minus isn't the perfect stat but it would complete the picture. How about height/weight?

Brooking is right. The eagles are one dimensional and predictable with their play calling. My kids know their plays. 1st down throw, if incomplete, run on 2nd for a yard. On 3rd and 9 attempt a 6 yard pass and hit the receiver's feet. Any failure now means only one thing. "Rebuild" the coaching staff

Another reason to drop Rollins down is to remove one at bat per game and give him some rest. They keep yalking about resting the regulars so Jimmy could at least benefit that way too. It's spring training, think outside the box and bat jimmy 9th, he skips an at bat then he is the leadoff guy sort of

I don't think Charlie is afraid to remove Rollins from the leadoff spot. After all, Charlie had no problem benching him a couple of times. Charlie is loyal to people who have a certain spot (Rollins as leadoff, Lidge as closer) but he'll make a change eventually if it's for the good of the team. Charlie earned that benefit of the doubt.
Mon., 01/25/10 - 17:33 PM
As others are rightfully saying, why must we assume Rollins is the lead-off hitter? I'd like to see a spark plug like Victorino lead off. Rollins and his switch hitting would be good lower in the order. Our line-up is good enough to have two offensive rounds from 1 to 8 in the order. Or, bat the pitcher 8th a la Tony LaRussa and then Rollins (9th) is before Victorino the rest of the game.

Regarding Buffalo, is T.O. still there next year? That rules out McNabb I'm sure.
Fri., 01/15/10 - 18:06 PM
I think the root of the problem isn't McNabb, but it's the play calling. They are so one dimensional that McNabb doesn't have time to throw. Kolb wouldn't fare much better. Whether it's McNabb or Kolb, we need a serious commitment to running the ball. That would make the QB better; and it would make the D better since too many offensive possesions go quick 3 and out in the current schemes. In other words, we have the personnel to win games but not the coaching.

McNabb had no time to throw. Kolb would've done worse under that pressure. The solution is to get an offensive coordinator in here who can develop a running game. That would make the passing game better as well as the defense. Look at the Vikings or Ravens.

11th prediction: McNabb will call the only audible he ever calls at least once. He'll pat either his left or right hind end and they'll run off tackle to that side for 1 yard when whatever was originally called would've been better for the defensive alignment that he felt he needed to audible against.
Tue., 01/05/10 - 20:59 PM
The ultimate goal here is to win the SB and those odds went from slim to none after they gave away the 2 seed and the bye week. Look at it this way; a win last week guaranteed a home game next week. Now a win this week guarantees a road game next week. More was at stake in the playoffs last week than now and they bombed. Why should they be better motivated now? The best opportunity already passed.

No matter what, the team has lost confidence in Lidge and the article shows that past champs have fired closers and still won. The Cubs recently sat Gregg for being less ineffective than Lidge.

As a Phils fan, the rebuilding by the Mets is impressive. I heard a stat last year that if you counted every game by the score after 7 innings, the Mets would've been like 10 games ahead of the Phils. Now the Mets got K-Rod and Putz along with maybe Wagner later on. Most of our pitchers/relievers had career type years (just like 93). I think we still need another good arm or two to keep pace.

I see Harold Carmichael in training camp with the receivers. Quite frankly I always thought he looked like he could still make the 53 man roster. We need a new commitment to the big running back to complement Westbrook.

If I can equal his strike outs but not his HR/RBI totals; can I please have 9 million?

Stan Hochman: There's no dancing around it, coach Reid deserves credit for Eagles' resurgence

It's amazing that Reid is a great coach because he was handed a playoff spot by the Bears, Bucs, and Cowgirls. Otherwise we'd be calling for his replacement about now. The difference between being in the playoffs and out of the playoffs wasn't because of great coaching. It occurred in other stadiums. Beating Minnesota was simply beating Brad Childress (Andy "lite" - in many ways:) who mismanages the clock and happened to wind up with a great RB and also lucked into the playoffs. The Eagles are playing below their overall talent level which means bad coaching. Or a good coach who's message simply ran its course. IE: Shanahan, Gruden

Any shooting by a real McNabb or Romo fan would've bounced at the intended receiver's feet.

I mean not sold out. Years ago gamers weren't televised in the home market if so many seats weren't sold. I recall the Eagles having that problem in the 70s/80s from time to time. The local network affiliate would buy out the last few just to televise the game. Yes, even in the football town of Philly!

Do they still do local tv blackouts when a game is sold out? What a shame that would be.

Quite frankly the stats are pretty even. The difference was turnovers by Dallas and great defense. Neither of which was produced by McNabb. Give Dawkins the headlines for this game!

And wouldn't you be one of the first during the season to write an article blaming a slump or injury on his being in this tournament?!?! That's probably another reason Ryan wants no part of it.

They have as much talent as any team out there. Trent Dilfer won a freekin superbowl! I said before - we'd be in the playoffs even if the Detroit coaching staff was in charge.

I'm sure there was worse language and other actions in the crowd than what Chase said. We're Champs, I'll take that along with my kids hearing something that I yell 50 times during Eagles games anyway....

The only good thing is that he finally separated Utley and Howard. Teams to often go to a lefty with them due up then to a righty for Burrell. Utley-Burrel-Howard at 3-4-5 would be better than Utley-Howard-Burrel to switch sides of the plate. Rollins and Victorino steal bases. Put them back up front!
