What the hell does anyone care anyway about them high-fiving? Fricking comment box is always filled with negative remarks. We're doing well in the red zone this year, so if high-fiving gets them in synch, try your best to not comment negatively.

I was thinking the same thing. It seemed that Carlton was untouchable for years, and then one day, sadly, Lefty became very mortal.

I got the joke g$, I was supplying one of my own. Did you really think I thought Cliff killed Martians? No I didn't think Cliff Lee wiped out of race of alien life forms. I know that was done by government ops back in the 60s while they distracted us with the so-called "moon landing."
Mon., 02/21/11 - 10:33 AM
I'm not sure I understand your comment, DixonBunz. Are you saying Cliff Lee is an interplanetary assassin? If so, this is bigger news than him hurting his armpit. Why aren't these sportswriters covering the slaughter of billions of Martians at the lethal hands of Cliff Lee? I don't get it, DixonBunz, but if you're right, this constitutes nothing short of galactic war crimes. I hope for the Phillies sake you're wrong.
I'd hate to open the season with Cliff Lee doing hard time in the spice mining fields of Kessel.

Question: How foolish can one response possibly be?
Answer: As foolish as this one by run2jazz2.
I am not saying Rollins or even Utley are untouchables (But they are close) but why would you trade one of them, and very possibly negatively impact the clubhouse chemistry and bring in a 1st baseman so now we'd have two very pricey, immobile infielders who can only play first?
Then you close by imploring the team to spend some money... Do you think the Four Aces are here as volunteers?
That's some dumb posting there pal.

Oh Fortunateson, you've done it again. You added a "B" to the front of our team, and made them an entirely different, and I will assume, in you mind anyway, a much weaker squad.
Bravo to you and your clever word play Fortunateson. You are an opponent to fear.

Seriously fortunateson? Beagles? Is that supposed to be some sort or witty and cutting insult? Beagles? I bet you're the same guy who calls the team from Dallas the "Cowgirls" and laughs yourself silly every time you say it, AND you probably half believe you invented the nickname too.
Personally I like something like "the Vagiants." See... it's both witty and cutting.
Go back to the drawing board and come back with something better than Beagles.
The Beagles.... please.

I agree, excellent column, Sam. I'll admit at first I was annoyed and wondered why not play in a blizzard - it's football, and football is meant to be played in the bitter elements.
It took me a day to realize aside from that weather neutralizing our best weapons, there was (as Sam pointed out) a greater risk of injury. Now of course the 5 day rest may also result in injury, but it seems clear now this was the best decision to make, and the only way everyone will be happy with it is if the Birds simply win out the next two games.
So just do that Eagles. Win 'em all from now on.

Farve has never really been that great against the Eagles. Now that he's less-than-Farve, I'm not sweating him. I actually think the real problem is Adrian Peterson coming back.

The worst part of this is we only get 5 days rest for the final game of the season.

How come I'm not able to respond to specific posts, or "like" or "not like" a particular comment? Is it because I'm on a MAC? I was able to do it on one article just once, but never since. AND, very annoyed there's no game today. Tuesday night sounds like an omen of bad things to come.
Sam Donnellon: Werth has bitter beginning with Nationals in wake of Lee signings

Arm, speed, power, defense, and he's come up clutch in big situations. It's going to be hard to replace Jayson Werth in right field. That said, it's a long held belief that good pitching beats good hitting, and it would be much harder to find a pitcher better than Cliff Lee out there. If there is a pitcher better than Lee, he already wears a Phillies uniform.
Werth got paid much more than any other team was willing to pay, Lee accepted a bit less than the other teams were willing to pay.
Werth helped us win a championship and he'll always be remembered on that team, but I agree, if we had to make a choice over keeping Werth or bringing back Lee, taking the lights out pitcher over the 5 tool outfielder is always the way to go.

I think Happ has real potential. Oswalt's numbers aren't that great this year. I'm happy with the trade, but obviously wish we still had Lee.

@antoine, I'm confused by your post.... are you're saying what the Eagles are lacking is a fragile running back, or they need a tough proven high level game changer?

Dawk was my favorite Eagle on the defensive side of the ball since Bill Bergey. The man is inspirational, and he brings it every single down. It's a shame we couldn't bring him back for another year, but as great as he was, and as amazing a clubhouse leader as he is, it may have been time. Thanks for everything Dawk. We love ya, and we'll see you at the Hall of Fame induction.

Hey, I'm not sure if everyone caught it or not, sometimes it takes a dozen or so times to make a point. The Eagles Raiders Superbowl was in New Orleans. Anyone else want to write the same thing?
