Which brands are where in the fashion industry's game of musical chairs:
—LIZ CLAIBORNE: Starting this fall, J.C. Penney will become the exclusive retailer of its Liz Claiborne and Claiborne line of women's wear, men's wear, accessories, shoes and household products.
The separate Liz Claiborne New York brand, designed by Isaac Mizrahi, will be exclusive to home shopping network QVC, also starting this fall.
The brand had been sold at various department stores, primarily Macy's, where its exposure had been whittled to 200 out of the 800 stores.
—TOMMY HILFIGER: Starting last fall, Tommy Hilfiger women's and men's sportswear is now sold exclusively at Macy's, with the partnership expanding to children's wear in the spring of 2009. U.S. shoppers still can buy the clothing at Hilfiger's own stores and Web site.
Tommy Hilfiger's other product such as fragrance, home furnishing and accessories are still being sold at other stores as well as Macy's.
—ELLEN TRACY: The traditional career label, once a mainstay at such upscale stores as Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom, is now seeking a new life exclusively at Macy's and has a new licensee making the clothes after another licensee was forced into bankruptcy by creditors this summer.
Ellen Tracy sunglasses and coats, produced by different manufacturing partners, will still be sold at other upscale stores like Nordstrom.
—DANA BUCHMAN: The career label, long sold at upscale department stores like Saks Fifth Avenue, has now been reinvented for more frugal shoppers at midbrow retailer Kohl's Corp., starting this past February.
