Plus face painting and a Dr. Seuss brunch for kids

Book festival has authors for all

Chestnut Hill Book Festival is offering a weekend program of summer reading, face painting and even a Green Eggs and Ham brunch.

More than 50 locally and nationally recognized authors will be featured at the festival. Children's authors include Barbara Mayfield, who wrote The Magical Mrs. Iptweet & Me; Gene Barretta, author of Jack the Tripper; plus writer Jason Deeble and illustrator Tom Warburton, among others.

The festival begins at 7 tonight with a reading by Gerald Kolpan from his novel, Etta, about the companion of the Sundance Kid. On Saturday and Sunday morning, kids can feast at the Green Eggs & Ham Brunch at Rollers' Expresso.

Throughout the weekend, children can enjoy face painting, storytelling, arts and crafts, and a costume parade, for which kids are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite book character. The festival takes place through Sunday at stores and other venues along the 7700-8700 strip of Germantown Avenue.

At 4 p.m. Saturday, parents can have a conversation with authors Tamar Chansky and Judd Kruger Levingston, who will speak on how to build character and eliminate negativity in kids. There will be a space for children to play while parents participate in the discussion.
