Following The Boss on a long, wild ride

Ilene Raymond Rush's commentary perfectly expressed the connection of many Springsteen fans to Bruce ("Connected to Bruce, from the very start," Wednesday).

Like Rush, I'm 61 and have been enjoying the E Street Band's music for about 40 years. I saw him perform in small venues when I had hair and was mesmerized by his music and lyrics before he made the covers of Time and Newsweek and exploded into stardom.

I've loved Bruce's music, humor with the audience, social consciousness, depth of feeling for people's struggles, and incredible energy during 12 concerts and many albums through the years. The band is topnotch as well, and even the newer members play off each other flawlessly.

The Sept. 7 concert at Citizens Bank Park - four hours nonstop, heavy on The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle and other Asbury Park albums from back in the day, on a beautiful summer night - was heaven to me and the others who filled the stadium. I was 25 again for a night - out of my seat, singing along with the crowd, and dancing.

I've seen many fine performers over the years, but Bruce's show is the best live performance, no contest.
