Poetry from kindergarten

By Natalyn Allen, Ian Carney, Yana Diakite, Mia Fagone, Aden Gagné, Charlieze Ganges, Vita Garofano, Miranda Graves, Ava Hendrix, Jack Janovsky

During National Poetry Month, we celebrate poetry, poets, the imagination, and our use of imaginative language. Here is a humble contribution from the kindergarten class at my school. Teachers Annie Suchecki and Barbara Walsh simply gave the children the opportunity to create their own prompt and then stood back to record what happened.

- Todd R. Nelson, head of school at the School in Rose Valley

Pretend you heard me and Jack talking about Yana getting married.

Pretend you didn't hear us while we were in the boat.

Pretend my name is Evelyn.

Pretend you found me in the wild.

Pretend you saw me stuck in the pricker bush.

Pretend you found my paw stuck in a thorn bush.

Pretend you couldn't get me out.

Pretend you are Sissy.

Pretend we can go on the canoe ride.

Pretend I am 18.

Pretend you are still my husband and are very nice to my children.

Pretend the curse will reach us tomorrow.

Pretend this was my room.

Pretend my room was on the other side.

Pretend you heard my and I woke up in the sea and you saw me.

Pretend you see my eyes.

Pretend you are my mother.

Pretend I will call the cat police.

Pretend I might have to take a trip for 2 weeks to stop the curse. I have to.    I'm the only one.

Pretend my brother stopped it once but the monster from the curse said I was the only one who could stop it.

Pretend your father says he has to be alone and I am in charge.

Pretend you have to do homework.

Pretend you want to be my brother.
