City Closes Early
The city seems to close down early. Retail stores along Chestnut and Market, 2 of the busiest streets in the city, close down by 7:00pm. Being a major city, you would think that the people that reside or work here would be able to run errands and go shopping after work without being rushed out!

Tax Review Board..Appeals
Here a place to get some howls. Interview the citizens who go through the administrative appeal process because the city systems have exhuasted them or unfairly put the burden of proof on them....and how about those awful unfair trash tickets!!!

RE: Comcast
We don't have Comcast on here because this a site to review taxpayer-funded city services. - Dave Merrell, Web Editor, City Howl/It's Our Money

Small Claims Court- filing and trial
For the first time in my life I sued someone as the result of an auto accident due to their non responsiveness (a non profit and their driver) If I had full tort it would not have gone to this venue. Anyway the folks who helped me file were great, helpful and patient. The trial was a little a Fellini-esque. I found out that their insurance company was paying their part of the claim the day before the trial, but about 60% of the claim remained. The attorney representing the NPA & driver knew the first judge so the judge recused herself from the case. We ended up in another court a little later that same day. The judge was very fair as there was no contest and awarded me most of my claim. I was satisfied with the combination of the insurance $ and the award considering the limitations of the venue and filing on your own behalf. The attorney saved their client I was suing a few hundred dollars but closure was all I think we all wanted. Not everyone has as good a result in this venue due to people disappearing or more contentious issues. I can say that the folks from the city did everything right for me in this experience. The check should be in the mail this week and I can move on- THANK YOU SMALL CLAIMS COURT FILERS, CLERKS & JUDGES!

Where's PHA?
Why can't I find the Housing Authority on here? Taxpayers should know how it's spending their money.

School District on Howl
Add School Distrcit as tab!!!!! With Ackerman kicking up racial barriers to protect blacks she is hurting the entire community. Education needs to be on this next to the Mayor block tab.

Who am I to be above the law
It is hard to believe that this city, state and country have bestowed onto to me the title of being above the law.It is kind of horrifying for I earned this out of stupidity and that is all it took. I fear that there must be more people out there with this title who have done way more horrible actions than I. When will we as a people,a city, state and country stop giiving out this distinction. When will we realize that Martin Luther King just wanted a society where all citize were the same under the law. The founding fathers thought they had create this in America but failed. That failure seems to be celebrated thru abuse to one another by applying the unequally and that must end. I will sacrifice my title, I am wondering when will the rest us will.

Philadelphia Registered Towing Companies
As a rule, I do not shop in Philadelphia. I made an exception on February 26th. My vehicle broke down in the Macy parking lot at Cottman and the Blvd. I received a call from the tow truck driver that my mechanic had called, telling me my minivan was gone. He referred me to Tow Decision. Imagine my surprise when I was told that they had my vehicle for 3 days and that I had to pay $225 to get it back. When I asked questions I was told "lady I don't have time to talk to you. If you want your car back come down and pay the money". This company had their license revoked, but managed to get around it, by obtaining a one year license for all of their companies. I came across a Daily News Article written in Nov 2009 regarding this practice and saw that there was a statement made by the city, that very few people have made complaints against the towing companies. I called City Hall information, the one toted by Mayor Nutter 311. Guess what, L&I does not take complaints against business. I was referred to the Better Business Bureau! You can bet that I won't make that I won't be coming to Philadelphia for anything besides my job!

Why Not?
Why isn't there a separate listing for the Streets Department? This one is the worse of all city departments.

Why Not?
Please ignore previous post. I was looking under the S for Streets Dept. not the D for Dept. of Streets. Why isn't there a separate listing for the Streets Department? This one is the worse of all city departments.

Cable tv service
Do we need a section devoted to problems/troubles encountered with dealing with Comcast?

YES, WHERE IS PHA on here?
The Phila.housing authority is the biggest joke for owners of Section 8 properties! Their employees have no idea what there doing, don't send out proper notices, take back money from owners when the tenants don't show for their appointments...i can go on & on about Section 8...they're are definetly wasting tax payers money! They never pick up phone, they can't ever give you direct answers...always out to lunch...the biggest joke in this city is this outfit PHA housing choice voucher program!!!! - try working for a change, would ya?

Chinatown
Could licenses and inspections maybe start paying attention to what gets dumped in the rain drains on the streets and especially side alleys? Also, in the summer the sidewalks of Chinatown are especially pungent and dirty. The Chinatown business district should make an effort here to freshen up. I work nearby and this has been the issue for years.

Phila School District
Why isn't there a separate section for PHilly schools on here? There's a lot to complain about the school system. The LaGreta Brown debaucle for example. The woman negligently did not uphold her responsibility to retain her certifications, ignored the racial threats against Asian students by black students, and was allowed to resign rather than be fired thereby keeping her benefits.

Comcast
Yes, there needs to be a tab for good ol' Comcast. I am a bit confused with the response the Inky gave to another poster about Comcast. If the Howl section has one on PECO, which is part of a publically traded company, why not Comcast?

Phila Commission on Human Relations
This is really a topnoth organization that gets under used&slashed to the bone when it comes to budget cuts.I am wondering when will this commission start being being more proactive in Castor Gardens&the surrounds northeast. As this area is inundated with crime,More white people are fleeing when if they had a little city help they would realize it just change. I want to move&i'm not white but seeing all these new people coming into the neighborhood chasing others with guns is unsettling.I hope all is done to keep this community from becoming the next Badlands and future redevelopment for the Blatsteins of the world to make money.North philly was allowed to decay&those redevelopers came in like wolves to make money off the backs of hardworking people.Right now till I see this in my community I give them a one.

we're on our own
In the less than 9 months that I've lived in Point Breeze, I've been denied a garbage can on my block, had a tree planted mixup and lost application, heard a 16yo get shot 5 times, gun shots fired multiple times, trash everywhere that I mostly pickup while most of my neighbors cause most of the litter, had 3 neighbors be broken into while they slept, watched the police ignore the illegal(and stolen dirt bikes & 4 wheelers race through our streets with no help. There ya go, Philly. The new slogan: Philadelphia - The city where the good people are on their own.
