Letters: Will LoBiondo return Trump's donations?

Like so many other Republican incumbents, U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo (N.J.) is backing away from his support for Donald Trump ("Some area lawmakers ditch Trump," Oct. 9). It seems the split was triggered by the "hot microphone" revealing his "locker-room" banter degrading women.

Will LoBiondo return Trump's donations?

Like so many other Republican incumbents, U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo (N.J.) is backing away from his support for Donald Trump ("Some area lawmakers ditch Trump," Oct. 9). It seems the split was triggered by the "hot microphone" revealing his "locker-room" banter degrading women.

While LoBiondo's announcement that he won't vote for Trump is laudable, I am troubled as to why this didn't happen sooner. After all, there has been a consistent pattern of disrespect for prisoners of war, war heroes, women, the disabled, and minorities, all of whom are part of the congressman's constituency. A possible reason for his loyalty may lie in the fact that Trump has poured thousands of dollars into LoBiondo's campaign war chest over the past decade.

Now more than ever, it is time for new blood and a new attitude in the House of Representatives from New Jersey's Second District. I have listened to and am impressed by Democratic congressional candidate David Cole, with his experience, energy, ideas, enthusiasm, and vision for our nation.

A burning question for LoBiondo remains: Do you intend to refund Trump's money as you distance yourself from his candidacy?
