Letters: Hold no malice, ill will or hatred in your hearts

PLEASE BE INFORMED that I consider myself as a small part of the solution to the divisiveness and upheaval currently ravaging our nation.

PLEASE BE INFORMED that I consider myself as a small part of the solution to the divisiveness and upheaval currently ravaging our nation.

I speak in particular about the killing of African-Americans and law-enforcement officials, as well. While marching and mass protest can be effective and ineffective, depending on the emotional climate and subject matter, I embrace another alternative which is more intimate.

I start with examining my heart to make sure that I hold no malice, ill will or hatred toward anyone. While my blackness may be perceived as threatening to some, my conduct and behavior is not. I taught my sons and my daughter to respect authority and those who are different in color, religion and customs.

We are all made in the image of God who represents love and peace which is not inherent in laws and legislation.

I am well aware that I am not the only soul who parentally attempts to instill the virtues of humanity and decency into my off spring, but to those who don't, my prayers are sincerely with you.

My wife works in a school that is predominately black.

She tells me that when white teachers come into the class, there is turmoil - the white teacher can't relate to the black kids, and the kids can't relate to the teacher, which promotes anger and hostility on both sides.

My wife is a black woman who has raised seven black children, who knows the makeup of black kids. The teachers and the kids look to my wife to bring peace to the classroom, and she does.

She will put her arm around the disruptive kid walking out into the hallway, calmly defusing the situation.

Afterward during their break, she will explain the makeup of the kids to the teacher, which is totally different from the makeup of white kids.

No one can understand a culture better than a person born and raised in that culture.

To stop white cops from rushing to judgment and killing and using violent force toward black people, the solution is simple: Put black cops in black neighborhoods. They can relate to their own better than some one foreign to the culture.

If there are not enough black cops, hire more. This will work, if the powers to be really want to curb the violence.

Uber strikes a deal with the PPA

Wow! Uber and the Philadelphia Parking Authority came to an agreement to operate in Philadelphia. Uber has to pay some money to the PPA. Will that extra money go to the school district?

We need gun control

We do need to control guns the way we control hand grenades, tanks, missile launchers and Sarin gas.

The inventor of the AR-15 designed this rifle for combat - not city streets - with the ammunition moving at 3,251 feet per second.

The antithesis of "control" is out of control.
