Look to the pool

I was disappointed by the lack of coverage of the Eastern Interscholastic Swimming and Diving Championships at La Salle University last weekend. It is one of the top high school meets in the country, and the Episcopal Academy girls' swim team came within four points of winning it. The school's Alex Sumner and Emma Seiberlich each won four events, Sarah Baturka won three, and Sumner was named Swimmer of the Meet. Penn Charter star (and Sports Illustrated Kids' SportsKid of the Year) Reece Whitley nearly broke the high-school record in the 100-meter breaststroke.

I understand the greater interest in sports such as football and basketball, but at least consider giving swimming some coverage during an Olympic year, when it's more in the public eye. These four swimmers will compete in the trials for the U.S. Olympic team in a few months, and Whitley has a shot at reaching a final. I hope the high school championships will get coverage starting next year.
