Letters: Understanding the differences between MOVE and white ranchers

SOLOMON JONES hit the nail on the head, when he wrote his column about the difference between black and white, with the MOVE confrontation and the ranchers' protest in Oregon.

SOLOMON JONES hit the nail on the head, when he wrote his column about the difference between black and white, with the MOVE confrontation and the ranchers' protest in Oregon.

The city of Philadelphia under the command of Commissioner Gregore Sambore burned down a whole block because people who called themselves MOVE and were the followers of John Africa. All the people in involved in the move confrontation were of African descent. The white people in Oregon took over property that belonged to the United States government. The Hammond brothers, Dwight and Steven, burned down government land and what happened to them? Nothing, because they are white. The city of Philadelphia murdered women and innocent children and the tax payers had to pay for their crimes.

The people in Flint, Mich., are without clean water and the mayor and the governor are hiding in plain sight, and this would not happen in an affluent white neighborhood. White people on government land armed with assault rifles are deemed activist, but people of color are labeled as thugs and criminals.

The people in Oregon were armed with all kinds of weapons and they were allowed to remain on the land because they are not criminals, but are labeled activist and patriots, The laws of the United States are only for people of color, and white people can purchase guns and murder black people at their leisure Why didn't the police and the federal agencies that are supposed to protect the land charge those white criminals and murder them as they did with the MOVE organization. No, because in the United States if you're white, you are always right but the laws should be applied to everyone. You tell them, Mr. Jones, that the same laws that applied to the MOVE organization also apply to the white ranchers. We, as people of African descent, want to be treated as human beings, like the white people, and not labeled as criminals and thugs. People of all races commit crimes, but if you're brown, you are labeled from the time you are born until you are placed in the ground. A person of African descent can have a Ph.D and still be labeled a criminal by the racist society.

I have to agree with Solomon. It is a black and white issue. How much was MOVE compensated for their illegal activity? How much was Officer James Ramp's family compensated?

Solomon Jones says that is how confrontations with black people end and that won't happen in Oregon because that doesn't happen to white people.

Way to inflame people. Good job.

What you fail to mention is that the white people you are talking about are doing it in a big open area, not populated. MOVE did it in an urban setting with many people living near them, and most of them were terrified of them and tired of the profanity and the quality of life issues they caused.

Flowers right on Palin

I just read Christine Flowers' column regarding Sarah Palin and her endorsement of Donald Trump.

What a remarkable column of pure honesty. I must admit, I am a flaming liberal, but I have been to Wasilla, Alaska. I saw the handwriting on the wall as soon as she came to the national stage, but if more people could review their judgments with the clarity you exhibit, how much better world we would have. And we might just find come peace and movement for the common good of us all before it is too late. Well done. Now, where is Mitt Romney again?

Philadelphia is filthy

Well the snow disappeared, but the streets, as usual, are very, very, dirty. I have never seen so much trash in front of people's property. They won't even invest in a $1 broom.

All over this city, it is just a shame. What is wrong with people? So much trash, fliers just lie on steps and get wet. They put trash out and don't even tie the bags up, ugh, and won't shovel in front of their properties. I even saw a dead cat, and the person told me, "Oh, that has been there since before it snowed." This was a business. I asked, why don't you call the city to pick it up? They just looked at me as if I had three heads.

Filthydelphia is what this city is. Hire some people to go around and sweep these streets, fine homeowners who don't keep their property clean; the city will generate plenty of money then.
