Letters: Here's a suggestion on replacing former Philadelphia school superintendent Arlene Ackerman
IN MY humble opinion, Salome Thomas-El should be Philadelphia's next school superintendent. He's a lifetime resident of the Philadelphia area. (He grew up in North Philly.) He's a product of this school district. He attended Pratt-Arnold and Masterman schools and was a graduate of the STAR program at Gratz High School.

He's a lifetime resident of the Philadelphia area. (He grew up in North Philly.) He's a product of this school district. He attended Pratt-Arnold and Masterman schools and was a graduate of the STAR program at Gratz High School.
He helped resurrect a chess team at the former Vaux Middle School, and many inner-city students went on to successful careers because of him. He's served as principal of several local schools, public and charter.
And he has a strong love for the children. Do the right thing, Philadelphia, and put him in charge.

The tax mess
Anyone who suggests that the super-affluent and corporations pay their fair share of taxes is either underinformed or willfully ignorant. Warren Buffett, the world's richest human, paid all of $7,000 in taxes last year. And GE, one of the world's largest corporations, managed to incur net zero in tax liability for that same tax year. Only a tax code written by the attorneys of the wealthy for the benefit of the wealthy could yield such farcical inequities.

Prez's broken promises
I hear people gossiping about the president's summer attire, saying he doesn't look presidential. Never mind his dress. What's troublesome is that President Obama is another disappointment in a long line of politicians.
At his inauguration, he promised: "On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics." This he has failed to do.

Mayor right on teens
I praise Mayor Nutter's swiftness in addressing the teens who participated in deviant, abusive behaviors. Many urban teens need discipline and insight. They also need guidance and direction.

Get it straight, DN!
Of all the things happening in the world, from the race riots in London to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to the death of one of our border guards in the botched ATF Gun Runner scheme, what does the Daily News decide to put on its front page? "Dress shop to lesbian bride: Get a groom!"
Get your priorities straight.
