Letters: Professor Marc Lamont Hill, here's what it looks like from the cop's side

FOR SOME reason, I keep buying the Daily News, even though I know, inevitably, I'm going to open it up and find some anti-police baloney inside - but not anymore. Every day, it's something about how horrible this Police Department is.

FOR SOME reason, I keep buying the Daily News, even though I know, inevitably, I'm going to open it up and find some anti-police baloney inside - but not anymore. Every day, it's something about how horrible this Police Department is.

Last week, I had to read about how another officer was shot by some drug-using, rapsheet-longer-than-my-damn-leg, no-job, welfare-abusing lowlife - but the officer's partner was wrong in protecting himself and his partner (also known as doing his job) and shooting back. And now another misunderstood "good kid" is dead.

Now, today, I have to read about the struggle an apparently educated but blatantly racist college professor (aka Marc Lamont Hill) must go through on a day-to-day basis - oh, the humanity. His entire day was interfered with for five, maybe 10 minutes by a working police officer.

You have some brass ones to question why a police officer approaches a car he's pulled over to investigate, for a legitimate purpose (whether you agree with that or not doesn't matter), with his hand either over or on his weapon?

How about asking the family of Danny Boyle why we do that, or Sgt. Liczbinski's kids, or Daniel Faulkner's wife? I'd say to ask them, but you can't - they're dead, murdered in cold blood for simply doing their job. You have to look no further than the officer you have such a problem with for a reason that we approach a car with caution.

The problem I have with you, Marc, is that, just like so many of the people I serve, you want us to "do our job" (a phrase we hear almost daily) - but you also want us to do so at no inconvenience to you. What are you so nervous about? I know there has been some negative print regarding the Philadelphia Police Department recently, but not even the Daily News has printed an article about a police officer just walking up to a car and shooting the driver.

So many people have a problem with the police and how they are doing their job, yet there are still so many radio calls on a daily basis. You don't like how we work, stop calling. Please spend a day with me and see just how many times I have to go to someone's house because they don't know how to take care of themselves or their family.

I know there was a time in this country when minorities were subject to indefensible

cruelties, but there is going to have to come a day when you put the race card down and make your own history. I know this isn't the most proud time in our Police Department's history - and there have been plenty of "cops" who are no better than the dirtbag who was killed on March 13 during his PCP-laced tirade (and I'm all for getting them out of the PPD as quickly as possible) - but enough is enough with all the negativity.

In the end, the only racist person I read about in that column in the Daily News was Marc Lamont Hill.

I'D LOVE to know how much they paid you for what amounts to nothing more than a regular old car stop in a bad neighborhood. Lucky for you they love to just throw money away around here.

But no worries, Marc, I'll be back out there again dealing with the same mundane problems that the "adults" can't handle themselves.

If we ever cross paths on the beautiful streets of North Philadelphia, I promise to keep in mind how sensitive you are and act with the utmost decorum.

Wouldn't want to shake up your idea of public - sorry, white - safety.

Police Officer William Giulian
