Letters: Actually, those 'sleeping Americans' have opened their eyes

TO LETTER-writer Robert Leonardo ("The Sleeping Americans"), we are no longer asleep. We've come to our senses. Why don't you try researching what Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and other conservative commentators are bringing out into the open?

We've come to our senses. Why don't you try researching what Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and other conservative commentators are bringing out into the open?

Afraid of what you might find? Affordable health care? For who? Illegals? Those who don't, and never have, paid taxes? Let me know how you feel when your grandmother is refused care because she's too old.

In one European country, they're cutting off limbs because it's cheaper than trying to save them.

We are rapidly losing our freedoms, and are soon to be called the USSA. Let me know how you like the mercury-filled lightbulbs that will be forced on you. At a higher cost. Let me know how you enjoy being dictated to as to what you are allowed to eat. Open your eyes, sir.

Phabulous Phils, even in defeat

Like all Phillies fans, I'm feeling postseason depression. For the team with the best record in baseball, there will be no Game 7, no pennant, no three-peat run at the world championship.

That said, I'm grateful for a season that went deep into October. Only four out of 30 cities can say that.

I'm thrilled that the payroll-bloated Yanks were sent packing. My biggest regret is that Doc and Little Roy didn't get a shot at the rings they so rightly deserve. My strongest wish is for Jayson Werth to be re-signed.

Thanks, Phils - great run while it lasted. See you in the spring.

Shane Victorino's almost-great catch only accentuated "The Catch" by Willie Mays in the '54 Series. Good players do great things at times, but great ones do them at crucial times. A good team had a good year, losing to a decent team on a roll. Besides, the season was lost when someone decided, for some secret reason, that we didn't need Cliff Lee if we got Roy Halladay.

I've always disdained Vince Lombardi's "Winning isn't everything; it's the only thing." But I must admit I'm hurtin' right now.
