Letters: Bike Share Philadelphia plans a bike-sharing demonstration for city residents

MICHAEL Smerconish said, "I've seen Philadelphia's future, and it's balancing on two wheels." We at Bike Share Philadelphia hope that not only is he prescient, but right on the money!

Almost everyone who sees a bike-sharing program in operation, as Smerconish did a few weeks ago in London (even without trying it out), gets it and wants it for Philadelphia.

Bike-sharing systems are transformational in easily getting people around an automobile-congested city. It can be faster and less expensive to use bike sharing for quick trips than to drive and park a car or use conventional public transportation. Plus, as a bonus, it gives citizens the benefit of getting physically fit while doing everyday chores!

Although Bike Share Philadelphia would like to send all of the Daily News readers to London to see this for themselves, being fiscally responsible, we are bringing a three-day bike-sharing system demonstration to Philadelphia this week:

_ Today at 36th and Walnut streets, University City, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., in front of the Penn Bookstore, in cooperation with the University of Pennsylvania.

_ Tomorrow at JFK Plaza (LOVE Park), 15th and JFK Boulevard, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., in cooperation with the Mayor's Office of Transportation and Utilities.

_ Saturday at Penn's Landing on the Walnut Plaza, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., in cooperation with the Delaware River Waterfront Corp.

Come join us for a ride!

No strength in 'unnatural state'

Marriage is of a divine origin and so has divine criterion. It was ordained and instituted by God: marriage between a man and a woman.

There is sufficient and sound evidence to support the abomination of a union between persons of the same sex.

Where is the soundness and the health and the strength to be wrought by such an unnatural state?

Man will not have mastery over God's law. He is supreme: superior in power, influence and effectiveness.

Obama out - and Hillary in?

Why is President Obama committing political suicide for himself and his Democratic colleagues in an election year with his many recent "gaffes"? He is bringing criticism to himself from both parties and the mainstream media.

Why is Obama letting the military decide the war; supporting the proposed building of a mosque near the Ground Zero site; condemning the new Arizona immigration law; and stalling a comprehensive federal-immigration law? Is he planning amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants?

Add his lack of efforts to reduce outsourcing of blue- and white-collar jobs, and his failure to renegotiate the unfair NAFTA free trade treaty. It is Obama's inaction that stymies new U.S. jobs.

The polls show voter support for Obama is fading badly. I suggest Obama resign rather than being a lame duck until 2012. Let Vice President Joe Biden end the wars and try to advance the economy.

I predict that either Joe Biden or Hillary Clinton will be our next Democratic nominee for the 2012 or 2016 presidential election. Clinton has my vote. Her world travels as Obama's secretary of state to troubled nations, friendly and unfriendly, give her enormous credibility and a growing groundswell of support.
