Letters: Keeping racist ball rolling

I WAS SO angered reading Anthony Matthews' response to Jane Gilvary's "Cracker History 101" article. Mr. Matthews, it's people like you who keep the racist ball rolling. Ms. Gilvary was trying to make a point that not all white people are bad and that not all white people are responsible for slavery. Why can't you accept the fact that there were white people who tried to help black people?

The point is, slavery happened. It was unfortunate, but what's done is done. Hitler killed millions of Jews. Yet, I don't see Jewish people carrying the same chip on their shoulder toward Germans that black people do toward white people. Why must black people continue to blame white people for their problems?

Also, in your letter, you say that "today's slavery is 'incarceration.' " Are you kidding me? Incarceration is the result of someone committing a crime. Inmates are not sold or traded and then put to work in a "warehouse and herded like cattle." Those inmates are incarcerated because they committed a crime - much like yourself, Mr. Matthews, as I noticed that your letter came from a correctional facility. So, don't blame the white people because you committed a crime that landed you in jail.

Fury over their sound

Just want to add a few folks to Jenice Armstrong's list of radio and TV personalities who should follow Dr. Laura out to pasture. Let's start with Keith Olbermann and Rachael Maddow. These two clowns report the news with more spin than Hurricane Katrina. Theirs are tales told by idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. Is it any wonder their ratings are dropping faster than our corrupt state legislators? For the record, Bill O'Reilly's ratings trump both theirs combined, and by a wide margin.
