would erode freedom
How many uninsured Americans have cell phones, cable TV, and maybe even season tickets to their favorite team? How many take a vacation rather than buy insurance?
I don't want to compel these folks to change their choices, and I don't think they should compel me or anyone else to pay for their insurance. Freedom in America is about having choices. This health-care bill will take a bit of our freedom away while it adds dozens of new federal bureaucracies.
We can improve health care in this country, but a 2,000-page bill, so complex that no one can understand it, is not the way.

Go ahead;
stay at home
Re: "Voters sit out in force, giving reasons aplenty," Wednesday:
I can't help myself; I must say this when I hear the multitude of reasons why people don't vote: "Go ahead; stay home. Your reluctance or inability to be part of our democracy just made my vote much more valuable."
What I don't say is that it's also an affront to all those who have given the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy the freedom to vote.

Watch out
for Corzine
Just because Gov. Corzine failed to buy a second gubernatorial term doesn't mean that his power-mongering and lust for the national spotlight are extinguished.
Would anyone wish to bet against Sen. Frank Lautenberg's suddenly retiring before the Christie inauguration, and Corzine's anointing himself into the vacated seat ... and back to the national stage? His orchestrated "return" will no doubt be MacArthur-esque ... complete with pomp, circumstance, and fawning by The Inquirer.
