Letters: Be careful of the 'r-word'

FORMER President Jimmy Carter seems to indicate that Rep. Joe Wilson was a racist when he made his now famous statement, "You lie."

This racist baloney is getting completely out of hand.

Yes, we have a man of color in the White House, but that doesn't mean that any statement directed at him is racist.

Wilson spoke his mind in an unprofessional manner, but not in a racial way. These racial accusations have gotten to a point now that ignorance is overtaking rationality.

The tax ripple effect

Mayor Nutter obviously isn't happy enough hurting Center City businesses by doubling the parking-meter rates, and we now have a sales tax that's been increased to 8 percent.

It may not be a lot of money on smaller purchases. But shopping at the same stores in the 'burbs offers people safety and a change of atmosphere.

Now let's just see what happens to the use and occupancy, wage, business privilege and net-profits tax revenues during the time of this temporary sales-tax increase.

Drugs kill in many ways

Re the Schmidt's slayings:

There's a lesson to be learned here, but will anyone listen to it? If you deal drugs, buy drugs, are involved with people associated with drugs, you take your life in your hands, and I don't feel a bit sorry if you die by that association.

"Pooh" Hook is one of thousands of drug dealers in the city and catching him won't slow down the trafficking.

When I first heard that Rian Thal was killed in her apartment, I was sorry for her. Then I found out she was a drug dealer, and said, "Who cares?" Live by the sword, die by the sword. They should all kill each other and save the taxpayers a lot of money for trials.
