Letters: Passenger etiquette for SEPTA

WHENEVER I ride a SEPTA bus, even if there are plenty of seats, I see able-bodied people standing in front chit-chatting with the driver and putting their shopping bags in the same area.

Ditto for the El, where they stand right in front of the doors. Also on the Route 100 Norristown line - some people simply stand in the area that's restricted only to the driver. And if all the seats are taken, people will simply overcrowd the front aisle and not move to the back of the bus.

SEPTA has signs stating not to overcrowd the front aisle, but people just simply don't listen, and the rule is not being enforced! It's a safety hazard. The driver has to concentrate on what he's doing to avoid an accident.

So remember, if you ride SEPTA, and there are plenty of seats, by all means, please sit down. This is just common courtesy and for your own protection.

And if you have a lot of shopping bags, by all means, please either take a cab or use your own car. Don't overcrowd the SEPTA vehicles with your packages, and just use common courtesy.
