Letters | Philadelphians, get the illegal guns out of your homes!

THE CITIZENS of this city need to take an active role in keeping guns out of their homes. You know who you are. Your sons and brothers, your boyfriends, etc., are out all times of day and night. You know in your heart what types of activities they may be involved in. If you care, you'll do what you have to in order to see that any gun is removed from your home.

You will remove the dangerous threat to you and your family's lives, and the lives of others in your communities. The police can't come into our homes to search and seize, and I am not advocating this. I am advocating that the families of the people who possess guns do have some responsibility for this "shootout at the OK Corral"-type atmosphere that our streets have become - and if you need to take back the control of your home, you need to do that, too - yesterday. Because as long as we keep looking beyond our own homes, we will never see the problem under our own roof.

Mayor Donothing sits in the ivory tower at City Hall week after week, and we hear nothing from him. It's disgraceful that the mayor is not on TV, the radio, any and all news media decrying the senseless violence occurring in this city. (But he could make political calls for a candidate, though.)

If he can't find get involved with community groups to at least share what he is thinking, how can we feel that he even cares? He needs to do more than hide out in City Hall and court Convention Center visitors. But we have to do more than hide out at home looking for someone else to solve the problem.
