David Peter Moon, 65, formerly of West Chester, a financial planner and insurance executive, died Nov. 19 of liver cancer at his home in Griffin, Ga.

Mr. Moon lived in Chester County for 59 years until moving in 2010 to Griffin with his wife, Corinne A. Moon.

He was a certified financial planner and a Life Underwriter Training Council fellow for almost four decades. From 1978 to 2010, he ran his own insurance agency, Thorndale Associates Insurance, from offices at 1556 Shadyside Rd., West Chester.

From 2000 to 2004, he also was regional vice president of Investors Life Insurance Co. in Austin, Texas. "He did this from our home with computer and phone," his wife said.

In 2014, Mr. Moon became the CEO of Insurance Solutions 101 Inc. in McDonough, Ga. He never retired.

In his 20s, he enjoyed building and racing cars.

Later, he took up singing. Blessed with a high tenor voice, he performed with musical groups including the Coatesville Meistersingers; his own band, Moon & Meyers; and a band called Classic Vinyl at Sun City Peachtree, his 55-and-older community in Griffin.

"He was passionate about helping people be prepared financially for the future, doing the right thing for his clients, making the best music he could, and providing for his family," his wife said.

"He enjoyed talking with anyone at any time about anything, he loved telling stories, and his favorite thing to do was make people laugh."

Besides his wife of 40 years, he is survived by a daughter, Mollie Moon.

Services were Dec. 2 in West Chester.
