Emalene Mason Price, 87, schoolteacher

Emalene Mason Price, 93, an elementary schoolteacher at the former Fort Dix and in Mount Holly, died of congestive heart failure Sunday, June 26, at her home in the senior retirement community of Granville Place in Burlington City.

Emalene Mason Price, 93, an elementary schoolteacher at the former Fort Dix and in Mount Holly, died of congestive heart failure Sunday, June 26, at her home in the senior retirement community of Granville Place in Burlington City.

Born on a farm near Blissfield, Mich., Mrs. Price graduated from Blissfield High School and then earned a bachelor's at the University of Michigan in 1945.

She moved to Washington to become a government employee, transferred to Hawaii, and met and married William D. Price, an Air Force pilot stationed at the former Hickam Air Force Base there, son James C. said.

After assignments at other bases, the Prices settled in Mount Holly in 1957 and Lt. Col. Price retired from the former McGuire Air Force Base in 1960.

Mrs. Price became a public schoolteacher in the 1960s, first at the former Fort Dix, her son said. She spent most of her 20-year career teaching fourth grade at the Gertrude C. Folwell School.

She was a treasurer for the Mount Holly Historical Society and a member of the University of Michigan Alumni Association.

In retirement, she and her husband toured in Britain, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland.

Besides her son James, Mrs. Price is survived by son William C., a brother, and six grandchildren. Her husband died in 2009.

A visitation was set from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, at Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St., Mount Holly, with a memorial service set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, at the First United Methodist Church, 25 Brainerd St., Mount Holly, with interment in Mount Holly Cemetery.
