Estelle Kane Roberts, 91, an Elkins Park resident and former owner of a gift shop there, died Wednesday, April 6, of complications from a stroke at a nursing home in Boca Raton, Fla.

Mrs. Roberts was owner-operator of the Pink Daisy, a store catering to high-end customers in search of fine china and home decor for weddings and other special occasions.

Mrs. Roberts started the business in the basement of her sister-in-law's home in Huntingdon Valley in 1970, and moved it to a store in Rockledge and then to Old York Road in Elkins Park.

Many Philadelphia-area customers were on the gift registry, her family said.

In 1999, when Mrs. Roberts retired, she sold the business to her daughter Linda Roberts Tabas for $1. The store is now in Yardley, Bucks County.

Born in Philadelphia, Mrs. Roberts grew up in Millville, N.J., and enrolled at Temple University, where she met Daniel Roberts, a dentist in training. She graduated from Temple in 1944.

"They were college sweethearts," Tabas said.

He set up a dental practice in Jenkintown. The two raised a family in Elkins Park and were together until his death in October 2015.

She enjoyed reading and world travel, and was a supporter of the Barnes Foundation, the Arden Theatre Company, the Wilma Theater, and the arts in general, her family said.

She read avidly and traded all of her own stocks by computer, her daughter said.

Mrs. Roberts retired to Lake Worth, Fla., in 2005.

Besides her daughter, she is survived by another daughter, Meryl Erlanger; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother.

Services were Friday, April 8, in Florida. The family will sit shivah at the home of Linda and Jonathan Tabas starting at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, April 11 and 12.

Contributions may be made to Vitas Health Care, 1901 S. Congress Ave., Suite 420, Boynton Beach, Fla. 33426.
