FOLKS IN THE BLOCK of Tackawanna Street between Kinsey and Gillingham, in Frankford, knew Beverly Dennison-Pritchett as a devoted leader.

Beverly saw it as her job to make sure the block was clean, no trash strewn about and, most important of all, no rowdiness.

As the block captain, Beverly took her position seriously. She wanted her block to shine above all the others in Philadelphia.

"She loved doing things for her family and her community," said her daughter, Georganna Pritchett.

Beverly, who managed stores and a restaurant in her working career, a loving mother and grandmother, died Jan. 31 of a heart condition. She was 58.

She lent her organizational skills to a number of retail stores and was a manager for the White Tower restaurants, all in Frankford. Poor health forced her to retire in 1995.

Beverly was also an artist who enjoyed painting nature and religious scenes, and was skilled at arts and crafts and crocheting.

She was born in North Philadelphia to Viola Dennison and Clarence McKenzie. She attended William Penn High School for Girls.

She married George Pritchett, a SEPTA maintenance worker, in 1986. They had been together since 1976. He died in 2010.

Beverly was a member of the Baptist Worship Center in Frankford.

"She was easy to talk to," her daughter said. "She was my best friend. She was very outspoken, fun-loving, caring, devoted and loyal. An all-around good person."

Beverly enjoyed family cookouts and holiday meals. Her favorite kitchen activity was baking. She turned out mouthwatering pies and cakes, her daughter said.

"She was very family-oriented," Georganna said.

Besides her daughter, she is survived by her mother; two brothers, Randy and Donald Dennison; a sister, Kathryn Dennison; and three grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Hawkins Funeral Services, 5300 Vine St. Friends may call at 9 a.m. Burial will be at Merion Memorial Park, Bala Cynwyd.
