Jacques E. Mauch, 93, financial planner

Jacques E. Mauch, 93, a financial planner and active Villanova University alumnus, died Monday, Oct. 20, of pneumonia at Dunwoody Village in Newtown Square.

Known as "Jake" to friends, Mr. Mauch lived in Rosemont and Bryn Mawr. He spent most of his 55-year career as a financial and estate planner working for Connecticut General Life Insurance Co. and CIGNA.

A 1943 graduate of Villanova University, he served as class president and for the rest of his life was an ardent supporter of the university and its swimming, football, and basketball programs.

Mr. Mauch served on many Villanova Alumni Association committees over the years, raised money for the school, and served twice as alumni association president.

As a student he had been captain of the Villanova swim team; as an alumnus, he swam in the Villanova campus pool until his 90th year. His specialty was freestyle.

Mr. Mauch also was among the longest season-ticket holders to Villanova football games.

He will be remembered as a loyal supporter of family members and as a very social man who enjoyed engaging others in conversation.

"He was a good listener; he always looked to create connections with people. It was quite a skill. Dad was never one to talk about his achievements," son James C. Mauch said.

Surviving, besides his son, are his wife of 63 years, Berenice "Bee" Carroll Mauch; another son. John; daughters Danna, Karen, and Mary Pat; seven grandchildren; six great-granddaughters; and a sister.

A Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at St. Thomas of Villanova Church on the Villanova University Campus, 800 E. Lancaster Ave., Villanova. A viewing starts at 8:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in West Conshohocken.
