Valeri Petrov, 94, Bulgaria's most prominent contemporary poet, who translated the complete works of Shakespeare, died Wednesday in a Sofia hospital following a stroke, his family said.

Besides poems, novels, and translations from Russian, Italian and English, Mr. Petrov - who was born Valeri Nissim Mevorah - authored numerous film scripts and plays for adults and children. - AP
