Betty Lou Sullivan, 89, caseworker at hospital

Betty Lou Turner Sullivan, 89, of Haddonfield, a former social caseworker at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, died of complications of congestive heart failure Monday, Aug. 4, at the health care facility Alaris Health of Cherry Hill.

Her husband, Andrew J., died at Alaris on June 19. He was a director of several divisions, such as that for flavor chemistry, at the Campbell Institute for Research and Technology in Camden from the mid-1950s to the mid-1990s, said a nephew, Clifford S. Tinder.

Mrs. Sullivan earned a bachelor's degree in psychology at the University of Kentucky and a master's in social work at the University of Missouri, Tinder said.

"She didn't have very extensive work experience," her nephew said, but after her time at the hospital, she worked from her Haddonfield home as a real estate agent.

Mrs. Sullivan was a longtime member of the Volunteer Committees of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Tinder said, "something she was passionate about."

The Sullivans, he said, "were very active patrons of the Philadelphia Orchestra," attending several concerts each season.

Besides Tinder, Mrs. Sullivan is survived by nephew Jason Ray and niece Cecily Schurhamer.

A memorial service was set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the chapel of the United Methodist Church, 29 Warwick Rd., Haddonfield, followed by a 3 p.m. visitation there. Interment is to be private.
