Edward J. Sedlak, probation officer, teacher

Edward J. Sedlak, 70, of Gloucester City, who retired in 2013 as a senior officer with the Gloucester County Probation Department in Woodbury, died of lung disease Saturday, April 12, at his home.

Mr. Sedlak grew up in Philadelphia and taught at St. Patrick School in Kennett Square before working for the Chester County Recorder of Deeds in West Chester.

After moving to Turnersville 30 years ago, Mr. Sedlak was a substitute teacher for the Washington Township Public School District, his partner, David Wood, said.

During his 16-year career with the Gloucester County Probation Department, Wood said, Mr. Sedlak worked mostly with child-support cases.

"He was a very compassionate person," Wood said.

Besides his partner of 30 years, Mr. Sedlak is survived by daughter Julianne Moore, three brothers, five sisters, and six grandchildren. He is also survived by his former wife, Kathleen.

A viewing was set from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 601 N. Browning Rd., Bellmawr, before a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass there, with private interment.
