Joseph A. McBride | Bank vice president, 66

Joseph A. McBride, 66, of Glenolden, retired bank vice president and youth sports coach and referee, died of heart and lung disease Monday, Oct. 15, at home.

Joseph A. McBride, 66, of Glenolden, retired bank vice president and youth sports coach and referee, died of heart and lung disease Monday, Oct. 15, at home.

Mr. McBride graduated from St. James High School in Chester in 1963. For two years he served in the Army at Fort Benning, Ga. After his discharge, he worked at Household Finance in West Philadelphia, where he met his future wife, Mary Jo O'Mahoney. In 1968, he joined Central Penn National Bank.

While at Central Penn, he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration at night from Widener University.

In the mid-1980s, Mr. McBride joined Bank Leumi Le-Israel in Philadelphia. He stayed with the bank when it was sold to PNC in the late 1990s and became PNC's vice president for commercial lending. He retired in 2011.

He was a volunteer referee and coach for Glenolden Youth Club basketball and baseball teams. Later, in the 1990s, he was a PIAA referee for high school and junior college basketball games.

He served on the board of the Philadelphia Israel Chamber of Commerce. He was a longtime member of the Glenolden Fourth of July Association and served as Fourth of July parade marshal for more than 20 years.

In addition to his wife of 32 years, he is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Altamuro; a son, Joseph; three brothers; three sisters; and four grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be said at noon Saturday, Oct. 20, at St. George Church, 22 E. Cooke Ave., Glenolden. Friends may call from 10 a.m. Burial will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Marple Township.
