Paul A. Ligouri, jewelry executive

Paul Albert Liguori, 64, chief operating officer for Ballet Jewels, died of gall bladder cancer Wednesday, Aug. 1, at Brandywine Hall in West Chester.

Since 2008, Mr. Liguori had been with Ballet Jewels L.L.C., a Kearny, N.J., firm that designs and markets costume jewelry.

Previously, he had been an executive of American Can Co. as well as a pharmaceutical company and several apparel companies, including Crystal Brands, Warnaco Group Inc., and Gitano Jeans. Before joining Ballet, Mr. Liguori was with Scunci, a manufacturer of hair accessories. He was a member of the Greater Philadelphia Senior Executive Group.

"His father spent his entire career with RCA. Paul was a different generation," said his wife, Nancy Newcomb Liguori. "He was a risk-taker and liked the challenge of helping a company restructure."

During his career, he worked in several states and often traveled overseas. Since 1988, his home base had been West Chester.

When his son, Michael, was younger, Mr. Liguori was a coach for the Southern Chester County Soccer Association. He later regularly attended his son's high school and college lacrosse games.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in West Chester.

Mr. Liguori grew up on Long Island and remained a fan of the New York Giants, Knicks, and Yankees.

He received a bachelor's degree from Syracuse University in 1970, then became a management trainee for a freight company before earning a master's degree in business administration from Pennsylvania State University in 1974.

He and his wife met at Syracuse when he shared his umbrella with her during a downpour.

He played golf whenever he could, she said, and loved vacations on the Outer Banks in North Carolina.

In addition to his wife of 41 years and son, Mr. Liguori is survived by his mother, Rose; a sister; and a brother.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, 410 N. Church St., West Chester. Friends may call from 10 a.m. Burial will be in Birmingham-Lafayette Cemetery, West Chester.
