Marie Hibbler, 79, provided care, advice

MARIE HIBBLER had boundless energy. Most of it directed at helping others. "She had to be doing something for somebody - anybody - at all times," her family said. "The Energizer Bunny had nothing on Marie. She was constantly on the go throughout her life and truly involved in living life."

MARIE HIBBLER had boundless energy. Most of it directed at helping others.

"She had to be doing something for somebody - anybody - at all times," her family said. "The Energizer Bunny had nothing on Marie. She was constantly on the go throughout her life and truly involved in living life."

Marie Hibbler, an optometrist assistant by occupation, but a compassionate caregiver by inclination, died June 14 of a heart attack. She was 79.

"She gave unconditionally to others - clothing, jewelry, food, time and advice," her family said. "People often came to Marie for advice. She would listen carefully, offer a kind sentiment, but also not hesitate to tell you exactly what was on her mind - in any given situation."

A native Philadelphian, Marie was a graduate of Overbrook High School. She worked for a time at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, then became an assistant to optometrist Donald S. Tannenbaum, which she continued for 31 years.

She married the late George H. Hibbler Jr. in 1957.

"Throughout her life, Marie was a loving wife and devoted mother who was always deeply involved and committed to their care and well-being," her family said.

"She loved her family, friends, most people - and cats. Marie was a shining example of kindness and compassion for others, but also was well-known for her quick wit."

For those in need of guidance, Marie's "honest opinions were beacons of truth."

"Her smile could light up the spirits of those around her anytime. Her constant need to give to others kept her going and going and going."

Marie's spiritual journey began when she was baptized at Union Baptist Church. She later joined the Church of the Redeemer Baptist Church, where she was an active member for 44 years.

She also was an excellent cook who enjoyed sharing her culinary skills with family and friends.

"Many, many homes were blessed with Marie's delicious home cooking over the years, and many, many people felt honored to be among her friends," her family said.

Marie also enjoyed trips to the Jersey Shore, during which she made good friends on the buses.

"Marie was able to make one last trip to the Shore and enjoyed beautiful weather, gentle sea breezes and the company of friends. Few people are so blessed to enjoy such happy final moments," her family said.

"She will be missed. She was always good for a laugh and a good meal."

She is survived by a daughter, Rhonda D. Hibbler, and a son, George Hibbler III.
