Louis D. Salomone Jr. | College professor, 79

Louis D. Salomone Jr., 79, formerly of Levittown, a professor at Bucks County Community College for 13 years, died of heart failure Saturday, Sept. 18, at Princeton Care Center in Princeton.

Louis D. Salomone Jr., 79, formerly of Levittown, a professor at Bucks County Community College for 13 years, died of heart failure Saturday, Sept. 18, at Princeton Care Center in Princeton.

Mr. Salomone taught marketing and business at the college from 1971 until retiring in 1984. He was also a consultant for small businesses in Bucks County. Previously he had taught at Brown University and at New England College in Henniker, N.H.

Growing up with four siblings in New York City, Mr. Salomone sold oranges and shined shoes to help his family, his son, David, said. He earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from City College of New York, then served in the Army in the States during the Korean War.

After his discharge, he earned a master's degree in business administration from Harvard University. He earned a master's degree in divinity from Tufts University and was a minister in a Universalist church near Boston for a year before becoming a college professor.

Mr. Salomone traveled extensively in the United States, Italy, and Central America and delighted in experiencing other cultures and music, his son said. He enjoyed fishing and racquetball and was an accomplished chess player.

In addition to his son, Mr. Salomone is survived by a daughter, Maria Gabelberger; a brother; a sister; three grandchildren; and former wives Christine Salomone and Linda Lederman.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, at Calvary Chapel of Philadelphia, 13500 Philmont Ave. Friends may call at 6 p.m. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown.
