Leo A. Gallagher | Hospital executive, 87

Leo A. Gallagher, 87, of Philadelphia, director of employee relations at Germantown Hospital from 1966 until he retired in 1991, died of pulmonary fibrosis Monday, July 19, at Holy Redeemer Hospice in Northeast Philadelphia.

Leo A. Gallagher, 87, of Philadelphia, director of employee relations at Germantown Hospital from 1966 until he retired in 1991, died of pulmonary fibrosis Monday, July 19, at Holy Redeemer Hospice in Northeast Philadelphia.

Mr. Gallagher was also an associate professor at Drexel University, where he taught night-school classes in business management from 1962 until he retired in 1983.

Born in West Philadelphia, Mr. Gallagher graduated from West Catholic High School in 1941 and was an Army artilleryman during World War II, including a year in the Philippines.

Mr. Gallagher earned a bachelor's degree in commerce at Drexel in 1949 and a master of business administration degree at Temple University in 1966.

In 1991, the American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration gave him its Paul Guy Mentorship Award, his daughter Maureen Schloendorn said.

Besides her, Mr. Gallagher is survived by his wife, Mary; sons Dennis, Thomas, and Kevin; daughters Helen Eccleston, Peg Chism, and Nancy Strenger; and nine grandchildren.

A life celebration was set for 9 a.m. Saturday, July 24, at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 212 Welsh Rd., Huntingdon Valley, followed by a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass there. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham.
