He was also an avid photographer, using his talents to depict the humpback whales in the ocean surrounding Maui, Hawaii. But "Chip," as he was called, never forgot his Philadelphia roots and returned often to visit family and friends.
Chip McGann died Nov. 3 of cancer in San Rafael, Calif. He was 57.
He was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Penn Valley, where he was educated in Lower Merion schools. He was a champion wrestler for Harriton High School, from which he graduated in 1970.
He was a regional finalist in wrestling in his senior year. He continued to wrestle at Franklin & Marshall College, where he earned a degree in business administration.
Chip worked for a time for the Globe Gear Co., founded by his great-grandfather in Fort Washington, before moving to California. He managed the Internet-technology department of Labcom, in Petaluma, Calif., a supplier of disposable products to laboratories.
He is survived by his wife, Kim Donnelly; a son, James A. McGann V; a daughter, Logan Sepich; his mother, Margaret Holden McGann; two brothers, George McGann and Robert McGann; and two sisters, Susan Dunswell and Margery McGann.
Services: Memorial service 12:30 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Supplee Memorial Presbyterian Church, in Maple Glen, Pa.
