Carol Jurgens Reid, 90, of King of Prussia, a real estate investor, died Sept. 11 at Manor Care in King of Prussia of complications from a stroke.
In 1978, Mrs. Reid inherited her parents' home in Bryn Mawr, and she converted it to two apartments for college students. Over the years, she bought a dozen buildings in the area, which she renovated and sold or leased. She was a member of the Diversified Real Estate Investor Group, a nonprofit education organization.
She was happy to provide affordable housing on the Main Line and in the Norristown area, said her son, Warren. She enjoyed interacting with people and attributed her longevity to keeping busy with her real estate deals, he said.
After graduating from Lower Merion High School, Mrs. Reid sold magazine subscriptions door to door around the country and won a sales award - a trip to the 1939 World's Fair in New York City.
She earned a scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a bachelor's degree in 1946. She then took graduate course at Penn, where she met John W. Reid.
After they married in 1947, Mrs. Reid taught school in Kansas, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania while her husband pursued his career as a clinical and industrial psychologist.
They lived for 20 years in Indiana, Pa., where he was a professor at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Reid is survived by her son and a sister. Her husband died in 1998.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church of Bala Cynwyd, 314 Levering Mill Rd. Inurnment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
