From 1974 until 1994, Sister Ethelwina was on the Neumann faculty as a history instructor and an archivist. The quiet nun was a lively teacher, and her courses were always overbooked, former students said.
After leaving Neumann, Sister Ethelwina volunteered until well into her 90s at Assisi House, the retirement residence for the Sisters of St. Francis, and worked on fund-raising for the Franciscan Ministries Foundation.
Sister Ethelwina grew up as Winnifred Molloy in County Galway, Ireland. At 15 she joined three older siblings at the convent of the Sisters of St. Francis in Ireland. She professed her final vows in Seattle, earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in history from Seattle University, and for more than 30 years taught in Oregon and Washington. From 1962 to 1974, she taught at Marylhurst College in Oregon. For four years in the 1970s, she was a member of her order's General Council.
Sister Ethelwina is survived by nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Rd., Aston.
A wake service will begin at 9:30 a.m. there, followed by a viewing. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Aston.
