Anne F. Haines, 81, a Weight Watchers instructor for 25 years, died of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease Sunday at The Hickman, a retirement residence in West Chester.

Mrs. Haines grew up in Bethlehem, Pa. She attended Drexel University, where she met her future husband, Arthur A. Haines. In the 1960s, after their four sons were in school, she was a teacher in West Chester for several years at Head Start, then a new federal program for disadvantaged preschoolers.

In the 1970s, she attended Weight Watchers sessions. She lost weight and kept it off, her son Randolph said, and became an instructor.

Mrs. Haines was a longtime member of the Church of the Holy Trinity in West Chester and was a member of the Chester County Hospital Auxiliary.

In addition to her son, she is survived by sons Ralph, Emerson and Arthur Jr.; and four grandchildren. Her husband died in 2005.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. today at Founds Funeral Home, 229 S. High St., West Chester. Friends may call at 10 a.m.
