Adele Smith Healy, 90, of Overbrook, a former physical education teacher and coach, died of complications from a stroke May 17 at home.

Mrs. Healy graduated from West Philadelphia Catholic High School for Girls where she captained the basketball team. She earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from Temple University.

For more than 12 years she taught physical education and coached sports at St. Vincent's Orphanage in Philadelphia and at area Catholic girls' high schools including St. Hubert's, Hallahan, West Catholic, and Merion Mercy Academy.

In 1952 she married John Healy. While raising their four children in Overbrook, she assisted him in his plumbing and heating business. She was a volunteer and taught aerobics at Saunders House, a nursing home in Wynnewood.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren at home and in Ocean City, N.J.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Healy is survived by daughters Anne Ayella and Kate Willcox; sons John and William; two sisters; and 11 grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass was said Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Overbrook where she was a eucharistic minister. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon.
