Josephine Schenker Herron, 86, of West Chester, a former secretary and volunteer, died of an apparent aneurysm Saturday at Chester County Hospital.

Josephine Schenker Herron, 86, of West Chester, a former secretary and volunteer, died of an apparent aneurysm Saturday at Chester County Hospital.

Mrs. Herron grew up in Phoenixville. During the Depression, she was employed by the Works Progress Administration in Philadelphia.

In 1940, she married Roy W. Herron, an auto mechanic. She was his secretary when he operated a gas station and later an auto-repair garage in West Chester.

Mrs. Herron taught ceramics in her home, her daughter Jo Anne Wright said, and was an accomplished needle-crafter and bowler. She was a member of the Goshen Fire Company ladies' auxiliary and a volunteer for the American Red Cross blood bank in West Chester.

In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Herron is survived by a son, James; daughters Betty Lynn Martin and Jean Marie Moulder; a sister; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Her husband died in 1988.

A Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. tomorrow at SS. Simon and Jude Church, Route 3 at Route 352, West Chester, where Mrs. Herron was a founding member and attended daily Mass. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Founds Funeral Home, 229 S. High St., West Chester, and after 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at the church. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, West Chester.
