John Moosbrugger Sr. | Inventory manager, 79

John R. Moosbrugger Sr., 79, of Levittown, a retired inventory manager and youth sports volunteer, died of complications from Alzheimer's disease Saturday at St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne.

For 35 years, until retiring in 1997, Mr. Moosbrugger was an inventory manager for Columbia House Records in Pitman, Gloucester County, and in New York City; he commuted from Trenton by train for 30 years, his daughter Marta Hall said. Previously, he had been a business manager for the Allentown Cardinals baseball team, and had worked for the can division of Crown Cork & Seal Co. in Philadelphia, and for Wiley Publishing Co., which at the time was in New York.

After graduating from La Salle College High School, Mr. Moosbrugger worked for the Naval Aviation Supply Depot in Philadelphia and played for depot teams in baseball and basketball industrial leagues. He attended La Salle University on a basketball scholarship and was a member of its 1954 NCAA championship team.

Since 1955, he had been married to JoAnn Redlinger Moosbrugger. They were neighbors growing up in Fox Chase. For more than 25 years, Mr. Moosbrugger helped organize, manage and coach his children's baseball, basketball, swimming and soccer teams. In recent years, he enjoyed attending his grandchildren's athletic events, his daughter said, and he was given a yellow-card warning at a grandson's soccer game for challenging a referee.

In addition to his wife and daughter, Mr. Moosbrugger is survived by daughters Frances Hunt, Theresa Manley, Patricia Kovach and Gretchen Green; sons John, Pete, Stephen and Matt; and 19 grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. today at Queen of the Universe Church, 2443 Trenton Rd., Levittown. Friends may call at Dougherty Funeral Home, 2200 Trenton Rd., Levittown, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem.
