A 78-year-old woman was fatally struck Tuesday afternoon by a pickup truck on Roosevelt Boulevard in the Castor Gardens section of Northeast Philadelphia, police said.

The accident occurred just before 2:15 p.m. on the southbound inner lanes at Tyson Avenue, police said. The woman had crossed halfway across the boulevard and had stepped off the center grass divider when she was hit by a 2006 Ford Ranger. Medics pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

The truck remained on location and its driver, a 21-year-old man, was not hurt, police said.

Police said the investigation of the accident was ongoing.

Roosevelt Boulevard is considered one of the most dangerous roads in the city.
