A 21-year-old woman was charged with first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of her mother in their Perkiomen Township home early Friday, authorities said.

Elena C. House-Hay allegedly killed Annette E. House, 54, with a kitchen knife in a second-floor bedroom of their residence in the 400 block of Abbey Lane.

Shortly before 3:20 a.m. Friday, police were called to the scene by House-Hay, who claimed her mother was killed by an unidentified male in a gray sweatshirt who fled from the location, police said.

House-Hay, who gave conflicting accounts of what happened, had blood on her clothing and said she had a fight with her mother earlier about House-Hay's treatment for bipolar disorder, police said.

State police executed a search warrant on House-Hay's mobile phone and found that she had sent a Facebook message to a friend Thursday night saying "Haha, I hate my family."

The Montgomery County Coroner's Office performed an autopsy on House and ruled that her death was a homicide.

House-Hay was being held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility awaiting a preliminary hearing on July 31.
