Parveen: Okay now, but 4th could be wet

Sheena Parveen's forecast for the July 4th weekend calls for unsettled weather in the Philadelphia area, with rain possible.

Welcome to the July 4 weekend.  Today looks pleasant and much nicer than yesterday but that could change by Saturday.

And a word of caution if you're at the Shore that there is a moderate risk of rip currents for the New Jersey and Delaware beaches today, and possibly tomorrow.

Here's what's happening: An area of low pressure (rainy / cloudy weather) with an associated cold front will stall to our south. This looks to be the case over the weekend.

This being said, the stalled front (stationary front) will be responsible for proving extra cloud cover and higher rain chances for Saturday. The problem right now is there's nothing to essentially "push" this stationary front in one direction, so it will be a nuisance and continue to give us rain chances over part of the July 4th weekend.

The highest rain chances will exist the farther south you travel; for example, Delaware and southernmost New Jersey. Rip currents may increase Friday and Saturday.

One thing we will have to watch for over the next couple days would be new areas of low pressure that develop along the stationary front, which is pretty common.

By Sunday, high pressure (sunny, dry weather) will start to move in from our north. This will help dry things out Sunday, but the stationary front could still provide clouds farther south through the area.

So here's the forecast based on the weather pattern in play:

FRIDAY:

Poconos: 75°, mostly sunny

Phila: 80°, sunny in the morning, then mostly cloudy later with a small chance of a shower

NJ Shore: 74°, mostly cloudy, slight chance shower or t'storm

DE Beaches: 76°, mostly cloudy, slight chance shower or t'storm

SATURDAY:

Poconos: 77°, clouds and sun, slight chance shower

Phila: 77°, clouds, some sun, but a better chance of scattered showers as the day progresses

NJ Shore: 75°, mostly cloudy, chance showers

DE Beaches: 76°, mostly cloudy, chance showers

SUNDAY:

Poconos: 78°, mostly sunny

Phila: 85°, mostly sunny

NJ Shore: 78°, mostly sunny, more clouds south

DE Beaches: 80°, mostly cloudy, chance showers south
