How much is that doggie, in the hospital?

A selected look at what medical procedures can cost.

  1. Total hip replacement for a dog: about $5,300

  2. Kidney transplant in a cat: $15,000 up front, plus $1,000 or $2,000 in follow-up care the first year, plus anti-rejection medicine for life

  3. Root canal in a dog: about $1,750

  4. Chemotherapy for feline lymphoma: about $2,500 to $3,500 for a 6- to 8-month course of treatment, including the initial staging of the cancer.

  5. Laparoscopic spaying: about $200 for a cat. The cost for a dog ranges from about $250 to about $400, depending on size.
