Parking rule changes, discounts during pope's visit

Parking in the city is going to be made a little bit easier during Pope Francis' visit, thanks to adjustments from the Philadelphia Parking Authority and a discount from some of the city lots.

The Parking Authority announced Tuesday that vehicles bearing resident parking permits for districts 1, 4, 5, 6, and 10 can move their vehicles to any permit-parking block in the city while no-parking rules are in effect in their neighborhoods during the pope's visit and not be ticketed.

Vehicles with resident stickers must still obey other parking rules.

In addition, 10 Center City parking garages and lots, offering a total of 5,130 parking spots, will make those spaces available at a 50 percent discount off their standard 24-hour parking rates from Sept. 25 to 27. Central Airpark near the Philadelphia International Airport will offer the same deal.

The participating Center City lots are 337 S. Broad St., 1616 Chancellor Garage, 12th and Filbert Streets Garage, Gallery Garage Market Street East, Holiday Inn Express Garage at 1305 Walnut St., Liberty Place Garage at 1625 Chestnut St., 1301 Market St., 1314 Spruce Lot, 925 Walnut Garage, and Walnut Twelve Garage.
