Bucks suspends its HR director after loss of $450,000

DOYLESTOWN Bucks County's commissioners have indefinitely suspended without pay the county's human resources director, Meredith Dolan, following revelations last week that "sloppiness and mistakes and failures" in the office led to the loss of $450,000 in taxpayer money.

Errors had resulted in nearly 40 people improperly receiving county health-care benefits, according to a yearlong grand jury investigation led by the District Attorney's Office.

Commissioners Chairman Robert Loughery said the suspension is the county's first step in holding Dolan accountable for her office's failures.

"We are trying to do this in a responsible way and make sure we cross our t's and dot our i's," he said. "We're dealing with our HR director, who normally deals with our HR issues. There's no playbook on this one."
