Economic development touted

MEDIA Delaware County officials are focusing on attracting business to the area, County Council Chairman Tom McGarrigle said at the annual state of the county address Tuesday.

Citing projects such as the new oil-by-rail facility in Eddystone and Sunoco's decision to move its corporate headquarters to Newtown Square, and federal statistics that show the county's growing workforce, McGarrigle said recent efforts had been successful.

Speaking at the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce's annual luncheon, McGarrigle said county officials "are not resting on our laurels" as the county implements a 10-year economic-development plan.

As part of that new strategy, county officials unveiled a campaign Tuesday to promote Delaware County as having "the edge" over other places in location, workforce, innovation, education, and quality of life. - Laura McCrystal
