Watershed programs to get grants

COATESVILLE Six Chester County watershed protection projects will receive a total of more than $980,000 in state funds, State Sen. Andrew Dinniman (D., Chester) announced this week.

The state awarded the money as part of its Growing Greener Program, which seeks to protect watersheds from pollution. The program has given $15 million in total funding to 97 projects throughout Pennsylvania.

Coatesville will receive $150,000 to improve the management of storm-water runoff. The YMCA of the Upper Main Line will get $152,300 for storm-water runoff improvements and dam removal.

The Red Clay Valley Association will receive $159,000 for its latest stream restoration project, which will reduce the amount of sediment along a 2,700-foot stretch of the Red Clay Creek in East Marlborough Township, said Robert Struble, the association's watershed conservation director. He said the project plays a key role in getting the creek to meet water quality standards.
