Saying he wanted to provide better service to Philadelphia’s growing immigrant population, Mayor Nutter on Thursday signed an executive order establishing the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant and Multi-Cultural Affairs.
The office will seek to improve access to city services for people whose English is limited. It also will help develop economic opportunities and educational resources.
Nutter named Jennifer Rodriguez as executive director of the office. She will be paid $100,000 in the job. She previously was Deputy Vice President for Program Services and Sustainable Communities with the Asociación Puertorriqueños en Marcha, or APM, a community development group.
Fernando Treviño-Martínez will serve as deputy director and will be paid $90,000. He previously was the Pennsylvania State Director of Operation Vote with Organizing for America, formerly the Obama for America campaign.
