A.C. Mayor Lorenzo Langford loses re-election bid to Don Guardian

In somewhat of an upset, Atlantic City, N.J. mayoral challenger Don Guardian appears to have beat out Democratic incumbent Lorenzo Langford to become the city's first Republican mayor since it returned to a partisan government in 1992.

In an upset, Atlantic City, N.J. mayoral challenger Don Guardian appears to have beat out Democratic incumbent Lorenzo Langford to become the city's first Republican mayor since it returned to a partisan government in 1992.

Langford was prepared to concede the race to Guardian Tuesday night with 19 of 21 districts reporting, according to unofficial results obtained by The Press of Atlantic City.

Langford, who reportedly said he expected to be re-elected due to his strong record, became the focus of national spotlight during Hurricane Sandy after trading barbs with Gov. Chris Christie over Langford's handling of the crisis. Guardian, who formerly served as the executive director of the Atlantic City Special Services District, won support from many traditionally Democratic sources.
